Judging by my playing a new character in Albion (up to 19 now) the in-game community is very helpful and friendly eager to join up for xp grouping, lots of crafters, etc. Judging by the forums RvR is very healthy and active between the realms. English is the default language but one reads some german chat once in a while. There tend to be about 500 or 600 other players on the server when I am (evenings Pacific) and I believe the population is heavily european so there are players round the clock. No Shrouded Isles even (though some of those races and character classes are permitted) Best of all - Original Frontier zones! And Darkness Falls is included as well. I discovered a freeshard server that is dedicated to this very experience and am absolutely having a blast.

After messing around with my old characters on a free trial what I realized I was missing was вЂњold DAoCвЂќ and with it the sense of a very small, tight-knit community. Just wanted to resurrect this thread since it was the jump point for me to reacquaint myself with DAoC.

TheyвЂ™d got so many RPs from the earlier fight that theyвЂ™d levelled multiple times however they needed to earn at least one more RP for each rank theyвЂ™d earnt as the game would only let you level once per award. We spent the rest of the night taking towers to try and get more fights as their blood was up. No-one in the group other than me had ever earnt a single realm point on any of their characters before that night. We had no healer except me with my chants and a few charges on items. Our four man group of utter noobs killed an equal number of RR9-11 enemies who had superior numbers and got the drop on us. IвЂ™ve dropped two Enchanters and our (level 35 ish) Theurgist has killed their Bard, but the second beatdown is inevitable and we all wipe. Amazingly the Merc has the presence of mind to go for their Druid and beats him to death with her (unlevelled) Malice. Everyone else is dead from the other PBAOEs so I use the aoe rez from the Egg of Youth and get them back on their feet while trying to slam as many enchanters as possible. I slam him in the face with my shield and start twisting my little heart out. The first enchanter reaches me just a fraction of a second after the mezz wears off. Everyone else in my group is also mezzed.

I pan my camera around and one of the top Hib gank-groups on the server is rolling over the hill, enchanters to the fore. So weвЂ™re out at the spawn and are committing genocide against the trash trying to get the quest mob to spawn when suddenly IвЂ™m mezzed. My Paladin was the only 50 in the group and none of the other party members had any RvR experience at all - they were all card-carrying carebears who only played for PvE. With me is the level 40ish mercenary who needs the epic and a couple of lower level guildies who were tagging along for the ride. He had a reasonably decent suit but was only about RR5 or so and was specced for siege warfare.

I was on my Paladin who had mostly been retired to do armourcrafting full time. There was a quest in the Mercenary epic chain that involved going out to a fairly quiet spot in the frontier and melting a couple of reasonably tough mobs that were on very random spawns.

Reminds me of the time I took a few junior members of my guild out to the Frontier to get some quests done.
